ENEVA held on Wednesday (4), the Nova Demanda Resettlement opening, located in Santo Antonio dos Lopes, in the state of Maranhão. The ceremony also marked the delivery of Antônio Amorim School that will be administered by Santo Antônio dos Lopes Secretary of Education. The event was accompanied by the State Secretary of Education, Felipe Camarão, and the mayors of Santo Antônio dos Lopes municipalities, Eunélio Mendonça; and Capinzal do Norte, Roberval Campelo. The project built by ENEVA benefited 65 families, representing 220 people living in the Parnaiba Complex's surroundings.
Nova Demanda Resettlement counts with a health center, two churches, living area with soccer field, square, community center, and a school that was opened recently. The education unit has the capacity to serve up to 120 children - from 1st to 5th grade of elementary school - and has a computer and reading room, patio, bathrooms, cafeteria, auditorium and a clinic. The school also serves children from nearby villages, who can enroll and attend the unit.
The families that participated in the resettlement project also received a plot of at least three hectares, a furnished residence, water and electricity supply, a tractor for community use and had the support for the development of agricultural activities.
The resettlement program has been designed in a collective and participatory manner and proposed to the community in order to maintain their traditional way of life and offer more appropriate living conditions, thus helping to improve their quality of life. The project counts with continuous monitoring of the Public Defender of Maranhão, through the Itinerant Center for Special Projects.
The construction work employed 39 members of the community. Parallel to resettlement, ENEVA provided free training courses for members of the community, in partnership with the Serviço Nacional de Aprendizagem Rural do Maranhão (SENAR-MA). These courses aimed to improve and valorize agricultural activities and socio-economic community development. All families benefited from the resettlement program participated in the training courses.
ENEVA is a power generation and trading company, with complementary businesses in natural gas exploration and production. The company currently has approximately 2.2 GW of gross installed capacity, which places it among the largest private power generation companies in Brazil. ENEVA also owns an interest in natural gas onshore blocks in the Parnaíba Basin.
