The plant operates with spectacular levels of efficiency using 258 liters of diesel for the generation of 1 MWh. Thus, it produces more energy with the lowest possible amount of fuel, reducing the changes of emissions. This index should be further reduced from the use of methods and equipment even better, being researched in partnership with the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and the Federal University of Pará (UFPA).
Currently, 12 engines produced by MAN Diesel, with 1.86 MW capacity each, are already operating standards higher than the market. This equipment is typical of large vessels with high power level. It process, including B5 – fuel formed by the addition of 5% biodiesel and 95% of diesel derived from petroleum. The development of waste control system will further expand the use of the product of vegetable origin.
The transport of the fuel to the plant is the responsibility of BR Distribuidora, which brings the product to the Port of Santana, 18 km from the capital and carries in five trucks of 60,000 liters each to the base built by a subsidiary of Petrobras, next to the plant, with capacity of 1.1 million gallons of storage. Per month are consumed three million gallons of fuel, which reach the thermal five trucks per day in a frequency of two to three times per week.
